The match of the second round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup between the national teams of Uruguay and Cape Verde, which ended, brought not only bright football, but also a historic achievement.
For the first time in the entire history of the World Cup, goalkeepers over 40 years of age appeared in the starting lineups of both teams at the same time. Fernando Muslera took the place in goal for Uruguay, while the experienced Vosignha played for Cape Verde.
Interestingly, both goalkeepers celebrated their 40th anniversary in June this year. Vosignha was born on June 3, and Muslera was born on June 16.
Thus, the match in the group of the 2026 World Cup became unique from the point of view of age statistics and set a new record for the world championships.
