Girona decided to replace Michel: the club was led by the coach of the second team

0
Girona officially announced the appointment of Quique Alvarez as the new head coach of the first team. The 50-year-old specialist replaced Michel and signed a contract for one season. The leadership of the Catalan club decided not to look for a mentor on the side, but to continue the course of developing its own structure. Alvarez is very familiar with Girona's system, having worked with the reserve team for the past two years. At the head of Girona B, he achieved significant results: first he took the team from Tersera RFEF to Segunda RFEF, and last season he successfully established it at a new level. The club especially noted his ability to work with young footballers and develop academy talents. The coaching staff of the new mentor will include his brother Oscar Alvarez, who will become an assistant, as well as Jordi Balcels, who will be responsible for the team's physical training. Both have already worked in the structure of the club and are well acquainted with the internal processes. Quique Alvarez has a solid football background. A former central defender, he came through Barcelona's academy and spent over fifteen years in professional football, most notably for Villarreal. After finishing his career, he worked in the Barcelona system, and was also a member of the coaching staffs of Villarreal, Alaves and Levante. The new coach has the ambitious task of returning Girona to La Liga after last season's relegation.
