Malago became the new president of the Italian Football Federation

0
Giovanni Malago was officially elected as the new president of the Italian Football Federation. This was reported by the press service of the FIGC. In the elections, the 67-year-old Italian beat Giancarlo Abete, after which he replaced Gabriele Gravina in this position. The election took place in Rome, at the headquarters of the FIGC, and was attended by 274 delegates representing various elements of the Italian football ecosystem. Malago won the vote with 68.58% of the vote - Abete received 29.17% and 2.25% were absentee ballots. Malago previously served as president of the Italian Olympic Committee from 2013 to 2025, before being in charge of organizing the 2026 Winter Olympics. It will be recalled that Gravina resigned after another failure of the Italian national team, which failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in a row, so the first serious task for Malago will be the selection of a new head coach for the national team.
