Mourinho denies a large-scale purge at Real Madrid
0
Jose Mourinho, who will soon start as Real Madrid's head coach, has vehemently denied reports that he plans to carry out a massive personnel purge and get rid of star players due to their conflicts.
The Royals went two consecutive seasons without a single major trophy. Even the presence of superstars like Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior (whose contract expires next summer) and Jude Bellingham have not helped the team succeed.
In an interview for the Beast Mode On podcast, the Portuguese specialist clearly outlined his position regarding the team leaders and the rumors in the press:
"We don't have to talk much about Real Madrid yet, but I can touch on one thing. I've read articles where people have said, 'Jose Mourinho is coming here and he's going to sack some top players who have allegedly struggled during the season'. No. I want these players! I want the best players."
Mourinho emphasized that his task is to find an approach to the stars, not to get rid of them.
"Now I have to find a way to build a real team and not have the problems that I read in previous seasons. But the best players are the ones you want to see in the squad. If you have problems with not very good players - that's a real problem. And big players are big players."
The special one comes to the club after an extremely turbulent season. The management of "Real" managed to hire and fire two coaches - Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa. All this was accompanied by serious conflicts in the dressing room, culminating in a fight between Federico Valverde and Aurelien Chuameni, after which the Uruguayan even went to the hospital.
Despite these problems, the club management is actively working on strengthening the team under the vision of the new coach. Real Madrid's transfer campaign already includes: The signings of Marco Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate. Club president Florentino Perez also transferred the Dutchman Denzel Dumfries.
Mourinho returns to Madrid for the first time since his first spell at the club (2010-2013), when he successfully stood up to Pep Guardiola's legendary Barcelona. The specialist will take charge of the team next month when the players come off holiday for pre-season training.
The Portuguese talked about his approach to getting to know the current team:
"When I come to the club - and it hasn't changed since the beginning of my career - I don't like to talk a lot. I need to get to know the players, and I want them to know: the most important thing is not what people say about me, but what they themselves will see in me. I always say that I don't work miracles. But I can make better those guys who want to improve themselves," Jose summed up.
