The United States is considering hosting the 2038 World Cup

The United States of America may bid to host the men's World Cup in 2038. This was stated by the executive director of the White House working group on the World Cup, Andrew Giuliani.
The announcement comes amid the ongoing 2026 tournament, which the US is co-hosting with Canada and Mexico, where the number of participants has increased from 32 to 48 teams for the first time. FIFA is already considering expanding the format of the tournament to 64 teams by 2030. Given these scales, the White House is convinced that America has all the resources to organize such an event.
"When you think that this World Cup could expand to 64 teams at some point, I think the United States can handle it. But let me make sure that we successfully complete this World Cup on July 19 before we make a bet on 2038 or other tournaments," Andrew Giuliani stressed.
The schedule of the nearest World Championships, preceding 2038:
2030: Spain, Portugal and Morocco (the first three matches will be played in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to celebrate the competition's 100th anniversary).
2034: Saudi Arabia.
2038: The next tournament, the tender for which will be opened soon.
Despite the ambitious plans, the holding of 78 of the 104 matches of this year's championship in the USA is accompanied by a number of logistical and political scandals:
In April, more than 120 human rights organizations published a collective travel warning. They urged fans and journalists to be cautious because of the "brutal and offensive immigration crackdown" associated with the policies of the Donald Trump administration.
Guests of the tournament sharply criticized the significant increase in the cost of travel and logistics in the United States during the competition. Due to the conflict between the US and Iran in the Middle East, members of the Iranian staff were denied entry visas. The team was forced to move its base from Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico and currently faces severe travel restrictions during its campaign.
Despite the criticism, Andrew Giuliani remains optimistic and notes that he has already discussed with US President Donald Trump the country's ability to host the World Cup again. He emphasized that America has a unique advantage — already ready infrastructure.
"We have built stadiums. So for the USA, compared to other host countries, where it costs tens and tens of billions of dollars, the preparation cost only a couple of billions," the official explained.
Giuliani also noted the positive impact of the tournament on the country's international image during the celebration of its 250th anniversary:
"There's no better country to host the World Cup. The fans, who may be interacting with the US for the first time in a long time, are seeing that our country is truly extremely welcoming. It's so wonderful to see this love affair of the world with the United States of America... It's really nice."
