Eustace: Canada has nothing to lose
0
The day before, the Canadian national team beat South Africa in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
After the end of the game, the author of the winning goal for the Maple Leafs, Stephen Eustaquiou, commented on the performance of his own team.
"We have nothing to lose, so we will strive for victory in the next round as well.
We have a very good team and a unique playing identity: we are fast, physical, athletic, we play very well in transition, and when we play like that, we feel that the people of Canada identify with our style of football.
We got past the group stage, something our country had never done before at a World Cup, we got our first win, something we'd never done before, and now we won this game in the first round of the playoffs. So, things are looking positive, but we still have work to do to move forward.
We still have a long way to go before Canada becomes a country where soccer is the No. 1 sport," said the Canadian performer.
The next opponent for Canada will be determined in the pair Netherlands - Morocco.
