Koubek left the Czech national team after the failure at the 2026 World Cup

The head coach of the Czech national team, Miroslav Koubek, left his position. According to the official website of the Football Association of the Czech Republic, cooperation with the 74-year-old coach was terminated by mutual consent of the parties. Koubek led the national team on December 19, 2025, but failed to perform successfully at the 2026 World Cup. The Czech Republic finished last, in fourth place in Group A, with just one point and failed to make it to the play-off stage. In his statement, the coach explained that he himself suggested to the president of the Football Association of the Czech Republic, David Trund, to consider his resignation after an unsuccessful performance at the World Cup. "After the failure at the World Cup, for which I, as the head coach, bear part of the responsibility, I, having weighed all the circumstances, decided to offer my position to the president of the Football Association of the Czech Republic, David Trund. After a joint conversation, he accepted my offer, so my work with the national team ended. My decision was also aided by a media campaign based on numerous half-truths and fabrications about me. In such an atmosphere, my work for the national team lost its meaning. I would like to thank David Trunda, the Executive Committee of the association, Pavel Nedved, all members of the coaching staff, the association's employees and, above all, the football players. It was a great honor for me to lead the Czech national team. I'm sorry that after the experience gained at the World Cup, I won't be able to implement those clear ideas I had about further work with the team. Special thanks to the fans. Their support during qualifying and the final part of the World Cup was incredible and I will never forget it. I wish the Czech national team and my successor new successes. I will cheer for the team, just like every fan of Czech football," said Miroslav Koubek. So far, the Football Association of the Czech Republic has not announced who will be the new head coach of the national team.
