The head coach of the German national team, Julian Nagelsmann, expressed dissatisfaction with the referee's decision to disallow his team's goal in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match against Paraguay.
In the 102nd minute, Jonathan Ta sent the ball into the net of the opponent's goal, but after reviewing the VAR, the referee canceled the goal taking, recording a foul by Waldemar Anton on the Paraguayan goalkeeper.
"It's just ridiculous that our goal wasn't counted, but in the end you have to admit that it wasn't enough. I'm very disappointed because I think we have a really united team and the impressions from training have always been positive. Nobody loses matches on purpose. I feel sorry for all the fans in the stadium and those who watched the game at home," Nagelsmann is quoted as saying by Bulinews.
The main and extra time ended with a score of 1:1, and in the penalty shootout, the Paraguay national team was stronger — 4:3. In the round of 16, the Paraguayans will play the winner of the France-Sweden match.
