Former Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has spoken strongly about the referee's decision to disallow a goal for Germany in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match against Paraguay.
The expert is convinced that the episode was interpreted too harshly, and similar goals were regularly scored during the last season.
"If that goal had been fouled then Arsenal wouldn't have been champions of England. They've scored 60 per cent of their goals like that. If the goal had been scored we would have won the match. So it's definitely very painful."
It will be recalled that Jonathan Ta scored after taking a corner at the end of the first extra half with the score 1:1. However, after a VAR review, referee Jalal Zayed overturned the goal after a foul by Valdemar Anton on Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Hill. Subsequently, the Germans completed their performances at the 2026 World Cup.
