Luis Díaz Named MVP as Colombia Beat Ghana at World Cup 2026

0
Colombia's Luis Díaz was voted Man of the Match in the Round of 32 tie against Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite not registering a goal or assist. The Cafeteros held off the Black Stars at Kansas City Stadium in the United States, extending their unbeaten run in World Cup matches to seven (five wins, two draws). Díaz had a second-half goal disallowed for offside and was substituted in the 90th minute, yet still earned the fan-voted award. This marks the second time the Liverpool winger has claimed the individual honor at this World Cup. He was also named MVP in Colombia's opening group-stage win over Uzbekistan (3-1), where he scored once and set up another. Colombia now face Switzerland in the Round of 16 on Tuesday, July 7, at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. ET (23:00 Kyiv time).
