Klopp Confirms Talks With Germany: 'I'm Ready to Turn Things Around'

1
Jurgen Klopp has publicly confirmed for the first time that he is in negotiations to become the next head coach of the German national team, following their elimination in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup — a penalty shootout loss to Paraguay. The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund boss admitted he has been approached by the German Football Association (DFB) after Julian Nagelsmann resigned. “Yes, I can confirm the talks. It all happened pretty quickly. Julian stepped down, the DFB is looking for a successor, and they’ve spoken to me. What still needs to happen for my appointment? Patience. I have a contract with Red Bull, but I’ve told them I’m interested in negotiations. They’ll be intense, because it’s not just about Julian,” Klopp was quoted as saying by journalist Florian Plettenberg. Klopp also revealed he needs to speak with Oliver Mintzlaff — his boss at Red Bull — but expects no obstacles. “I’ve worked there for 19 months. It’s been an intense period. I’m ready. As soon as talks start, your mind starts racing. We have to fundamentally change the situation,” he added. Klopp left Liverpool in 2024 and took up the role of Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull in October of that year.
