Morocco knock Canada out of World Cup 2026: Ounahi brace and Diaz assists seal the win
0
Canada became the first host nation to exit the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a dominant 3-0 defeat to Morocco. The Atlas Lions delivered a clinical second-half performance to send the Maple Leafs packing from their home tournament.
Azzedine Ounahi was the hero for Morocco, scoring twice in the 50th and 82nd minutes. Both goals were set up by Brahim Díaz, who produced a masterclass in creativity from midfield. Soufiane Rahimi added a third in stoppage time (90+8) to cap off a memorable night.
Canada tried to stay competitive, with Jonathan David leading the attacking charge, but they lacked the cutting edge in the final third. Yassine Bounou was largely untroubled in the Moroccan goal, keeping a clean sheet.
Yellow cards were shown to Canada’s Laryea, J. David, De Fougerolles, and Larin, while Morocco’s Khalhal, Hakimi, Ounahi, and El Khannouss were also booked.
The defeat ends Canada’s dream of making a deep run on home soil. For Morocco, the victory continues their impressive form on the world stage, signaling they are a threat once again.
