Morocco become first African nation to reach two World Cup quarterfinals

0
Morocco continue to rewrite the history books for African football. Walid Regragui’s side powered past Canada with a dominant 3-0 victory in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, booking their place in the quarterfinals for the second time in their history. No other African nation has ever managed that feat. Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2010) each made it to the last eight once, but Morocco now stand alone with appearances in 2022 and 2026. Their run in Qatar was the stuff of legend, taking them all the way to the semifinals. Now they face familiar opposition. France, the team that ended their fairytale in 2022, await in the quarterfinals. It’s a rematch that carries extra weight, and Morocco will be desperate to go one step further this time around.
