Deschamps makes history with 10th World Cup knockout win
0
Didier Deschamps has etched his name into World Cup history as the first manager to reach double-digit wins in knockout matches. France’s triumph in the Round of 16 at the 2026 tournament was the 57-year-old’s tenth victory in World Cup elimination games — a milestone no other coach had achieved before.
Deschamps’ knockout record began in 2014 with a win over Nigeria. He then led Les Bleus to glory in 2018 and to the final in 2022. Overall, he now holds 18 World Cup wins, more than any other coach in the competition’s history.
The French boss, in charge since 2012, will step down after the 2026 World Cup. Next up is a quarterfinal clash against Morocco on July 9, kicking off at 23:00 Kyiv time.
