Hervé Renard steps down as Tunisia boss after disastrous World Cup 2026 campaign
0
Tunisia are once again on the hunt for a new head coach. Hervé Renard has officially announced his resignation following the Carthage Eagles' nightmare World Cup 2026 campaign, where they failed to pick up a single point.
The Frenchman took over during the tournament after Sabri Lamouchi was sacked following a heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in the opening group match. But the change at the helm did little to turn things around. Tunisia went on to lose 4-0 to Japan and 3-1 to the Netherlands, crashing out of the group stage with zero points.
After the team's elimination, Renard addressed the fans with a farewell message.
"Before I leave, I want to sincerely thank the federation for giving me the opportunity to work with the national team at the World Cup. It was an honor to represent Tunisia and live through this unforgettable experience. I wish the team continued growth, new successes, and bright chapters in their history. Thank you to everyone who stood by me during this adventure. My story here is complete," the 57-year-old said.
This marks Renard's second resignation in just a few months. He had stepped down in the spring, despite having led Tunisia to qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
