Arne Slot in talks to become Netherlands head coach after Liverpool exit

Arne Slot, the former Liverpool manager, has emerged as a leading candidate for the Netherlands national team job. According to Sky Sport Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has already held preliminary talks with the 47-year-old. While the federation is also looking at other options, Slot is believed to be on a shortlist of favorites. The position opened up after the previous head coach stepped down—the Netherlands were knocked out by Morocco on penalties in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. Slot has been out of work since leaving Liverpool at the end of May. In his debut season at Anfield, he led the Reds to the Premier League title, but the following campaign was far less successful—Liverpool finished fifth in the table, prompting the club to part ways and appoint Andoni Iraola as his successor.
