Real Madrid on the verge of World Cup scoring record — three goals away

1
Real Madrid are closing in on a piece of World Cup history that goes beyond the usual trophy chase. With 16 goals already scored by their players at this year’s tournament, Los Blancos sit just three strikes away from breaking the all-time record for most goals by players from a single club at one World Cup. That mark — 18 goals — is currently shared by three sides: Honvéd (1954), Bayern Munich (2014) and Paris Saint-Germain (2022). The bulk of Real’s production has come from Kylian Mbappé, who has seven goals, and Jude Bellingham with four. Vinícius Júnior added four more before Brazil’s elimination, while Arda Güler chipped in with one. Notably, every goal has been scored by foreign players — no Spanish-born Madridista has found the net so far. Both Mbappé and Bellingham are still alive in the competition, and Brahim Díaz, yet to score, could also contribute in the quarterfinals. For context, Honvéd’s legendary forward line of Kocsis, Puskás and Czibor accounted for all 18 goals in 1954, with Kocsis netting 11. Bayern’s 2014 champions featured seven German-based players plus Arjen Robben, Xherdan Shaqiri and Mario Mandžukić. PSG’s 2022 run was powered by Mbappé (8) and Lionel Messi (7), with Neymar and Carlos Soler adding the rest. Reims sit just behind with 17 goals in 1958, 13 of them from Just Fontaine. Now Real Madrid have a realistic shot at surpassing them all. With three more goals — and the firepower still on the pitch — this record feels well within reach. Even if the focus remains on winning the trophy, this statistical milestone would only add to the club’s extraordinary legacy.
