Brentford Close to Signing Callum Wilson as Free Agent
0
Brentford are on the verge of wrapping up a deal for 34-year-old striker Callum Wilson. The former England international, who became a free agent after West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Bees. The move is expected to be finalized within the week.
Wilson’s arrival gives manager Thomas Frank a seasoned attacking option to rotate with starting center-forward Igor Thiago. The Brazilian remains firmly in Brentford’s plans, with the club making it clear he is not for sale despite summer speculation of £80-90 million bids. Adding Wilson also allows the club to send 19-year-old Belgian prospect Kaye Furo out on loan next season to get regular minutes.
Last season, Wilson managed seven goals in 32 appearances for West Ham despite the team’s struggles. Across his Premier League career, he has represented Bournemouth, Newcastle United, and the Hammers. On the international stage, he earned nine caps for England, scoring twice, and was part of the squad that reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
During the summer, Wilson was heavily linked with a return to his boyhood club Coventry City, who won promotion to the Premier League after a 25-year absence. However, he opted for Brentford’s project in west London instead.
