Köln set sights on Edson Álvarez – player keen but West Ham contract stands in the way

0
FC Köln are pushing to sign Edson Álvarez, with the German club exploring all possibilities to bring the Mexican midfielder to the Bundesliga. According to prominent transfer insider Florian Plettenberg, the 28-year-old is open to the move and has given positive signals behind the scenes. However, prising Álvarez away from West Ham United won’t be straightforward. The midfielder still has a contract with the Hammers that runs until 2028, and the Premier League side are under no pressure to sell. The London club’s stance is currently the biggest obstacle in the negotiations. Álvarez spent last season on loan at Fenerbahçe, where he made 18 appearances across all competitions and registered one assist. The Mexico captain, valued at €15 million by Transfermarkt, is reportedly ready for a new challenge — but Köln will need to find a way to convince West Ham before any deal can be finalized.
