Real Sociedad reward Matarazzo with new contract after Copa del Rey triumph

Real Sociedad have officially extended the contract of head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, the club announced on Thursday. The new deal keeps the American tactician in San Sebastián until June 2028. Matarazzo took over the Basque side in late December 2025, replacing Imanol Alguacil. Under his guidance, La Real finished tenth in La Liga last season but delivered when it mattered most – lifting the Copa del Rey for the fourth time in club history. That cup success secured a spot in the 2026/27 Europa League group stage. Sociedad will begin their new league campaign with a trip to the Spanish capital to face Real Madrid, currently scheduled for August 16.
