Aston Villa May Be Forced to Sell Morgan Rogers Due to UEFA Financial Rules

0
Aston Villa are facing a real dilemma this summer as UEFA’s financial sustainability regulations could push them into selling one of their most important players. According to The Athletic, attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers — a 23-year-old England international — is the most likely candidate to be moved on if the club can’t balance the books before the window closes. Villa originally picked up Rogers for a fee in the region of £7–15 million, and any sale now would represent a massive profit. Manchester United, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich are all monitoring the situation closely, though none have submitted a formal bid yet. Co-owner Nassef Sawiris will have the final say — and he’s reportedly only willing to listen if an offer tops the British record £116 million Manchester City paid for Elliot Anderson. Rogers himself recently helped England beat Mexico at the 2026 World Cup and is keen on staying in the Champions League — a competition Villa qualified for after last season’s strong finish. He doesn’t want to give that up. But the financial pressure is real. Selling Rogers would not only ease UEFA’s scrutiny but also free up funds for new signings. Whether Sawiris pulls the trigger will depend on how big the offer is — and how badly Villa need the cash.
