Burnley zero in on Genk's Nicky Hayen as Parker's successor after Bellamy and Edwards fall through

0
Burnley are pushing to appoint a new manager after Scott Parker left the club by mutual consent back in April. The Championship outfit have set their sights on 45-year-old Belgian Nicky Hayen, currently in charge of Genk. According to BBC Sport, talks between the clubs are ongoing but no agreement has been sealed yet. Hayen brings a varied résumé: he managed Welsh side Haverfordwest County in 2021/22, later took over Club Brugge, where he was sacked in December 2025, and moved to Genk the same month. He led Genk to a seventh-place league finish and missed out on European qualification. Before homing in on Hayen, Burnley had chased other candidates. The club formally asked the Football Association of Wales to release Craig Bellamy from his Wales duties, but the negotiations collapsed over disagreements on backroom staff. Former Wolves boss Rob Edwards also reportedly turned down the chance to replace Parker. Burnley endured a miserable Premier League campaign last season, finishing 19th and dropping straight back into the Championship. The new manager needs to be in place quickly as players are set to depart for a pre-season tour of the United States, with friendlies scheduled against MLS sides FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew, and Real Salt Lake.
