Bruno Guimarães tells Newcastle he wants Arsenal move – Ornstein
1
Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães has informed the club he wants to leave this summer, with Arsenal the destination he has in mind. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the 28-year-old Brazilian made his intentions clear to the Magpies’ hierarchy.
The Premier League champions have stepped up their pursuit and are willing to go as high as £60 million for the midfielder. Arsenal already made an informal approach in June, offering just under that figure, but it was turned down. No formal talks have taken place between the two clubs, and Newcastle’s stance remains firm: Guimarães is not for sale.
The Brazilian’s contract runs for another two years. A £100 million release clause was previously included when he signed the deal in autumn 2023, but that clause expired in 2024.
Guimarães was a key figure for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, playing every match and recording four assists. Since his move from Lyon in January 2022, he has made 153 Premier League appearances, scoring 30 goals and adding 26 assists.
Losing him would be another heavy blow for Newcastle, who have already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham this summer. The club has no intention of letting its captain go, regardless of his personal wishes.
