Newcastle agree £50m deal for Switzerland star Manzambi

Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Freiburg for the transfer of central midfielder Johan Manzambi, The Athletic reports. The deal is expected to be worth around £50 million. The 20-year-old Switzerland international caught the Magpies’ attention with a standout performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he scored three goals and added two assists in just four appearances. During the 2025/26 season, Manzambi racked up seven goals and nine assists in 47 matches across all competitions for Freiburg. He also helped the German side reach the Europa League final, and UEFA’s technical observer panel named him the breakout player of the competition.
