Manchester City re-sign academy product Pierce Charles and loan him straight to QPR

Manchester City have completed the signing of Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Pierce Charles, bringing the 20-year-old back to the club where he developed. The deal cost around €3.5 million — a homecoming for the shot-stopper who left City’s youth system in 2021 to join Sheffield Wednesday in search of first-team football. Charles enjoyed a breakthrough last season, making 21 appearances across all competitions despite Sheffield Wednesday’s nightmare campaign. The Owls finished bottom of the Championship with zero points due to league sanctions, but the experience only accelerated Charles’ growth. Rather than park him on the bench at the Etihad, City’s hierarchy moved swiftly to ensure his development wouldn’t stall. Charles has been immediately loaned to London side Queens Park Rangers, where he’ll get regular Championship minutes and continue his upward trajectory.
