Monaco CEO opens door to Paul Pogba's early exit
0
Monaco general director Thiago Scuro has admitted that World Cup winner Paul Pogba could leave the club this summer, with the two-year deal looking increasingly fragile. The midfielder's first season on the Riviera was derailed by injuries, and the club's hopes have not matched reality.
Pogba did not make his Monaco debut until November last year, and soon after missed another month with a calf problem. In total, he managed just six appearances, five of them from the bench.
Speaking at a press conference, Scuro was candid about the situation:
“Maybe he’ll go, maybe he’ll stay. It’s a very difficult subject because we respect Paul deeply — first of all as a man. When he first arrived, he was very positive, he worked, he helped the younger players. But the truth is that last season the project did not go well. Our expectations in the summer were different from what happened.”
Scuro stressed that Pogba’s future depends entirely on his physical and technical condition, and ultimately on the head coach’s decision. The coaching staff now monitors his progress on a weekly basis.
“It all comes down to performances. We have the summer to see what level Paul is at. Our relationship has always been open and transparent. If at some point the player’s goals and the club’s goals differ, we’ll sit down and find a solution. The answers will come from what he does on the pitch,” the CEO concluded.
