Official: Morten Hjulmand joins Atlético Madrid

Atlético Madrid have wrapped up the signing of Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Sporting Lisbon, bringing in the Sporting captain after three years in Portugal. The Lions initially held out for a €60 million release clause, with Hjulmand still having two years left on his deal. But Atlético managed to negotiate a lower fee: €40 million up front plus another €5 million in performance-related add-ons. The Rojiblancos also agreed to cover all solidarity payments owed to Hjulmand's former clubs, and the deal was completed without any agent commissions. Hjulmand has put pen to paper on a contract running until 2031. His salary is set at €4 million per season in base wages, with additional bonuses. During his three-year stint at Sporting, the 25-year-old made 141 appearances, scoring 10 goals and registering 12 assists.
