James, Rice and Guehi fit for Norway quarterfinal at World Cup 2026

England received a major fitness boost on the eve of their World Cup quarterfinal against Norway in Miami on Saturday.
Marc Guehi (hamstring) and Declan Rice (stomach bug) returned to full training on Friday at Inter Miami’s training facility and are in contention to start. Reece James has also recovered from a hamstring issue and is available for selection.
“Yes, of course it's the best news. Today everyone was available for training, which we obviously like a lot. We have a full choice apart from the suspended Jarell Quansah, so it's great news,” head coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed at his pre-match press conference.
The only significant absentee (beyond the injured) is defender Jarell Quansah, who received a two-match ban from FIFA for a red card in the 3-2 Round of 16 win over Mexico. The Football Association was frustrated by the decision, especially given a recent precedent where FIFA rescinded a suspension for American Folarin Balogun after U.S. presidential intervention. When asked if the team had received an explanation for the harsh punishment, Tuchel replied: “I don't think so, but we also have no explanation.”
Jordan Henderson will also miss the match after undergoing wrist surgery following a fall while celebrating the win at the Estadio Azteca. The experienced midfielder has remained with the squad in Miami to support from the bench.
England returned to Florida for the first time since their pre-tournament camp, immediately facing grueling conditions: training takes place in 33°C heat with high humidity. The contrast is stark after their previous games were played in covered stadiums or in rainy conditions.
Despite the climate, Tuchel is focused on the task ahead: “I think we took a big step in our last match in Mexico City, but it was just a step. We are still hungry, we have dreams and a big goal we want to play for. The next step is to win the quarterfinal. We left the last match behind, took the positivity and belief with us, but everything that matters is ahead. It's tomorrow's match.”
The winner of this tie will face either Argentina or Switzerland in the semifinal next Wednesday in Atlanta.
