Scaloni: 'Argentina can improve, but winning is always better'

Lionel Scaloni admitted his side had to battle hard to overcome Switzerland 3-1 in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals. The Argentina coach acknowledged the physical challenge posed by the Swiss and credited a bit of luck after a red card turned the tide. “We suffered today. We knew they are a very strong physical team. They caused us a lot of problems, and we couldn't handle certain situations. In a way, fortune was on our side because they went down to ten men, and after that we pushed forward. Let’s be realistic: there’s plenty we can improve, but it’s always better when you win while doing so. What this team has achieved is historic, even if we could have played better. Reaching the semifinals again is a historic feat. It doesn’t matter whether it’s England or Norway. We’ll face a team that plays very well and has an excellent coach. Now we need to recover — I think that’s what we need most, and it’s the most important thing,” Scaloni told TyC Sports.
