Newcastle Line Up Danilo Oliveira as Bruno Guimarães Successor Amid Arsenal Interest
0
Newcastle United are already preparing for a potential departure of Bruno Guimarães. According to ESPN, the Magpies have identified Botafogo midfielder Danilo Oliveira as a primary target to replace the Brazilian international if Arsenal follow through with their interest.
The Gunners have been sounding out the possibility of signing the 28-year-old through intermediaries, but Newcastle are holding firm. Guimarães’ contract runs until 2028 with an option for an extra year, giving the club significant leverage. No direct talks have taken place between the two clubs yet.
Should Guimarães leave St. James’ Park, Newcastle are ready to move for Danilo. The 26-year-old left Nottingham Forest in 2025 after two and a half seasons in the Premier League and joined Botafogo. Palmeiras, Flamengo and Manchester United are also credited with interest.
In the current season, Danilo has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 12 league appearances. His contract with Botafogo runs until the summer of 2029, and Transfermarkt values him at €30 million.
A key factor in the pursuit could be Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson, who previously held the same role at Nottingham Forest and was personally responsible for signing Danilo. Their strong working relationship might prove decisive if formal negotiations begin.
Guimarães and Danilo were international teammates for Brazil at the World Cup, where the Seleção were eliminated in the Round of 16.
