French authorities are rolling out a massive security operation for July 14, when Les Bleus take on Spain in the 2026 World Cup semifinals. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed that more than 70,000 police officers and gendarmes will be on duty.
Around 5,000 officers will be deployed in Paris alone, tasked with safeguarding both the traditional Bastille Day military parade on the Champs-Élysées and the evening match at the stadium. The date combines a national holiday with a high-profile football fixture, raising the stakes for public order.
Nuñez also reviewed the night following France's quarterfinal win over Morocco. Authorities arrested 89 individuals, and a 17-year-old girl died in a road accident in the Nord department. The minister warned that no disturbances would be tolerated during the semifinal, promising a zero‑tolerance approach.
