Atalanta sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has broken his silence on the failed transfer of midfielder Ederson to Manchester United. According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the two clubs had already reached an agreement worth £35 million plus £3.8 million in add-ons. But after a second medical examination in England, United unexpectedly walked away from the deal. “We were stunned by what happened. Atalanta never announces big targets — we just work humbly and achieve extraordinary results. Ederson is happy to stay at the club, and we are now working on extending his contract,” Giuntoli told Di Marzio. The Brazilian had initially undergone part of his medical while on duty with the Brazil national team during the 2026 World Cup.
