Modric undecided on international retirement, new Croatia coach Bilic says

0
Croatia's run at the 2026 World Cup came to an end in the Round of 32, where they fell 1-2 to Portugal. Many assumed that 40-year-old captain Luka Modric had played his last game for the national team, but new head coach Slaven Bilic revealed the midfielder has yet to make a final call. Bilic said he spoke with Modric a few months ago, and the topic of retirement has been a constant discussion since. “I would like him to keep playing at the highest level, but the decision is his alone. We will talk about it as coach and player, as old friends. Now you know my opinion,” Bilic stated. Modric is currently without a club and actively searching for his next team. His international future remains open pending a personal conversation with the new boss.
