João Machado: Kryvbas move is the perfect step for my growth

New Kryvbas signing João Machado has opened up about his transfer to the Ukrainian Premier League side, sharing his background, mindset, and first impressions of his new club. The Portuguese right-back started his football education at the Domingos Desportivo de Savio academy in Lisbon before moving to Belenenses. He later spent time in Benfica’s youth system but eventually returned to Belenenses. Machado is clear about his best position: right-back. “For me, the most important thing in football is mentality. You have to be aggressive in a good way, resilient, and never give up. That’s the key quality of a footballer,” Machado said in an interview with the club’s press service. Calling his move to Kryvbas a “fantastic opportunity,” the defender highlighted the club’s facilities and environment. “There are good conditions here for training, development, and professional growth. That’s exactly what I want — to progress and get stronger. My main goal is to play as much as possible and keep improving.” Machado also spoke warmly about his adaptation: “The team has welcomed me really well. There are good people here, everyone is very friendly and helps me settle in. I’ve already gotten to know almost all the guys.” The 24-year-old revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo has been his idol since childhood. On match preparation, Machado said he treats every game with the same importance, focusing on proper nutrition, hydration, and rest. “The most important thing is to win. That’s why we step onto the pitch.” Earlier, another Kryvbas newcomer, Roy Navi, also shared his thoughts after joining the club.
