Harry Kane: ‘It’s heartbreaking to fall short when we were so close to the final’

England captain Harry Kane didn’t hold back his disappointment after the Three Lions were knocked out in the World Cup 2026 semifinals. A tense defeat ended their dream of reaching the title match, and Kane admitted the squad is devastated.
“I feel for the whole team, the staff, and the fans. For most of the game, we played well. When we went 1-0 up, it felt like we tried to hold onto it — and at this level, that’s not enough,” the striker said.
Kane stressed the players left everything on the pitch. “We worked so hard to get here. The lads gave every drop of blood, sweat, and tears. To fall short like this is heartbreaking.”
Despite the pain, Kane believes England are moving forward and remain competitive at the highest level. “We had plenty of good moments in this tournament, plenty of good games, another semifinal. We’re knocking on the door. We’re close — we just need to find that little missing piece to get over the line.”
The World Cup 2026 final will be played on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, where Argentina will face Spain.
