Aston Villa add Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha to shortlist

João Palhinha is once again facing an uncertain future. The Portuguese defensive midfielder joined Bayern Munich from Fulham in 2024 for €51 million, but it never worked out in Bavaria. Last season, the 31-year-old spent a year on loan at Tottenham, who paid a €5 million loan fee and had a €30 million option to buy. Despite seven goals and three assists in 45 appearances across all competitions, Spurs declined to make the move permanent. Palhinha has since returned to Munich, but Vincent Kompany has no plans for him, and his departure this summer is considered a foregone conclusion. He has admirers in his home country, and a Premier League move could also materialize in the coming weeks. Aston Villa have entered the picture as they look to reinforce their midfield after losing Youri Tielemans to Manchester United. According to reports, Unai Emery is keen on adding Palhinha to his squad, though Villa have yet to submit any formal offer to Bayern.
