Leeds made a high-profile transfer of Muharemovich for £34 million

English Leeds United have completed the transfer of the 23-year-old defender of the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina Tarik Muharemovic. The player moved to Misty Albion from Italian side Sassuolo for a hefty £34.1m, signing a five-year deal.
At Elland Road, the Bosnian is expected to replace Pascal Strike, who joined Brighton for £20 million in June.
Muharemovic became Leeds' second signing of this summer's transfer window, having previously been signed for free by Harry Wilson, who joined as a free agent after leaving Fulham. The player himself does not hide his emotions from the transition and is as determined as possible:
"I will give everything for this club. I will give everything, every game. I just want to win. I hate to lose and I will fight for every ball, even if it's a head or feet, I'm going," said the rookie.
In addition to club performances, Muharemovich managed to distinguish himself on the international stage, playing three matches for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team at the 2026 World Cup. The most memorable and scandalous was the 1/16 final match against the USA team
In that game, American forward Folarin Balogun severely fouled Muharemovich, for which he received a straight red card. However, this story took on an unprecedented political color: subsequently, FIFA disqualified Balogun after direct US President Donald Trump and representatives of the White House.
Muharemovic was born in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, but began his career in adult football in Austria, making his debut for Wolfsberger in 2021. Later, the player moved to the Italian giant Juventus of Turin. Having failed to establish himself in the main squad of the Old Signora, he went on a successful loan to Sassuolo, who bought out his contract in 2025.
It is interesting that the current transfer to England will be the most expensive in the history of Leeds, and will also bring a huge benefit to Juventus. Thanks to a special clause included in the sale of the player last summer, the Turin club will receive 50% of the resale amount (around £17m).
