Aston Villa broke their own transfer record: Manzambi moved to Villa Park

England's Aston Villa have officially completed the transfer of 20-year-old midfielder Johann Manzambi from Freiburg in Germany. This deal became historic for Birmingham - the amount of the transfer slightly exceeded the mark of 50 million pounds, which broke the previous record of the club (it was 50 million pounds that Villa paid Everton for Amada Onana two years ago).
It is interesting that even last week the Swiss talent was one step away from moving to Newcastle United. The Magpies were already with Freiburg, but the lightning-fast management of Aston Villa changed the course of events — the player himself decided that moving to Villa Park was the best option for him to continue his career.
Manzambi is very familiar to Aston Villa fans. Last May, he faced Unai Emery's Freiburg side in the Europa League final in Istanbul. The Birmingham side then secured a convincing 1-0 win, ending their 30-year trophy drought.
