Scotland's Motherwell have officially announced the sale of their 26-year-old midfielder Elliott Watt to Turkish club Samsunspor. The amount of the transfer by agreement of the parties remains undisclosed, but it is known that the player signed a long-term four-year contract with the new team.
Watta's new club is well known to Ukrainian fans. Samsunspor became the offender of Dynamon Kyiv in the league stage of the Conference League draw. In that match, the Turkish team won a convincing home victory with a score of 3:0.
The Preston native joined Motherwell last summer after leaving Burton Albion. This step was a real breakthrough in his career. Watt enjoyed a phenomenal season, making 42 appearances in all competitions and helping the team to a lofty fourth-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership.
The former player of the youth team of Scotland (U-21) did not hide his emotions and said a touching farewell to the team:
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been associated with the club over the past 12 months - 12 months that have changed my career and my life. The support and positivity I felt from the first minute I arrived gave me the confidence to learn, improve and perform," said the rookie.
Watt also added warm words to the fans:
"Hopefully I've put a smile on the faces of the fans. My family and I will be forever grateful and will always watch the team play; hopefully we'll be back soon - I don't think I'll be able to keep my boys away from Fir Park for much longer," he added.
Elliott Watt started his football career in the Wolverhampton system. During his career, he managed to play for Carlisle United, Bradford City, Salford City, Burton, and also spent a successful loan period at St. Johnstone, which attracted the attention of scouts to his person.
