Trump's visit caused traffic jams at the 2026 World Cup finals

The final of the 2026 World Cup between Spain and Argentina is accompanied by serious logistical difficulties for fans. Tens of thousands of fans are forced to stand in long lines at the entrance to the 82.5 thousand New York New Jersey stadium due to unprecedented security measures. The main reason for increased control is the personal visit of US President Donald Trump, for whom this is the only match of the tournament that he decided to attend. In connection with the visit of the head of state, the control over the security of the event was completely taken over by the US Secret Service together with the Transportation Security Administration - the body that is usually responsible for security at American airports. Two levels of screening have been introduced at the stadium: fans and media representatives pass through special scanners similar to airport scanners. Additional inspection is carried out by canine experts with service dogs (due to their shortage at certain points, people were even redirected to other gates). According to sources journalists, due to such thorough checks, viewers have to stand in lines for about two hours. Volunteers of the tournament note that the number of fans who arrived at the arena in advance significantly exceeds the indicators of all seven previous matches held here. The gates for spectators were opened at 11:00 local time — four hours before the starting whistle. In order to reduce crowding and traffic jams, the organizers periodically open additional entrances. Despite significant delays at checkpoints, the organizers assure that the match will start on schedule. The starting whistle will sound at 22:00 Kyiv time (15:00 local time). No obstacles to the actual game are currently expected.
