It's official: Aston Villa have signed Juan Gomez for £38m

Aston Villa have successfully completed the transfer of 25-year-old midfielder Juan Gomez from Wolverhampton. The total value of the deal was £38 million, of which Birmingham will pay £34 million as a fixed initial payment and another £4 million in bonuses. Gomes left Wolves' training camp in Portugal on Thursday to undergo a medical and sign all the paperwork. It is known that Atletico Madrid also showed serious interest in the Brazilian, but the player chose the option of continuing his career in England. The signing of Gomez was a vital move for the team amid major changes in midfield. Midfielder Amadou Onana has been ruled out until at least next year with a knee injury he suffered while playing for Belgium at the World Cup. In addition, the club said goodbye to Youri Tielemans, who joined Manchester United for £35m. This transfer continues Villa's extremely active transfer campaign. Only last Friday the club completed a record deal of over £50m for Swiss midfielder Johann Manzambi from Freiburg, beating off competition from Newcastle. Joao was a key player for Wolverhampton last season, making 41 appearances for the side who eventually finished bottom of the Championship. In total, since his move from Flamengo in 2023, he has made 130 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.
