Julian Alvarez blocks Arsenal move as Barcelona dream stalls transfer

0
Julian Alvarez has made it clear he does not want to join Arsenal, despite the Gunners' pressing interest in the Atletico Madrid forward. The Argentine striker is determined to leave the Spanish capital this summer, but his heart is set on a move to Barcelona – not a return to the Premier League. Arsenal, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have all approached Alvarez’s representatives. Barcelona have gone the furthest, lodging a €100 million bid that Atletico have so far refused to accept, unwilling to sell to a direct LaLiga rival. Sources in Spain confirm that Alvarez has told his camp he is desperate to play for the Blaugrana, calling it a “dream” he wants to fulfill. For Arsenal and PSG, the problem is Alvarez himself. According to reports, the 26-year-old has no intention of going back to England after his spell at Manchester City, and he also does not want to move to France. His family’s wish to remain in Spain has been described as a “major obstacle” for any club outside LaLiga. Real Madrid previously made a €150 million offer for Alvarez, but that was widely seen as a distraction rather than a serious attempt. Meanwhile, Atletico are holding firm, insisting they will not sell to Barcelona. They would be far more open to negotiating with Arsenal or PSG, but unless Alvarez changes his stance on leaving Spain, those deals cannot happen. The situation remains deadlocked. Alvarez is expected to go on holiday after Argentina’s World Cup campaign ends, and any serious talks with Atletico will likely wait until he reports for pre-season. The most realistic outcome, for now, is that he stays at the Metropolitano for another season.
