Arsenal deny Martin Odegaard transfer rumours after Galatasaray 'agreement' claims surface
0
Arsenal have quickly dismissed reports claiming captain Martin Odegaard has agreed personal terms with Galatasaray, with sources close to the player insisting the Norwegian is fully committed to the club.
Turkish journalist Selman Ozturk sparked the rumour by stating that the 27-year-old had given the green light to a move after his agent held face-to-face talks in Istanbul last week. According to Ozturk, Galatasaray are now hoping to strike a deal with Arsenal for around €40 million, or spread the fee over instalments.
However, outlets close to the Gunners have categorically denied any such agreement. Furthermore, those close to Odegaard have confirmed that his agent, Bjorn Kvarme, has not been in Istanbul recently. In fact, Kvarme is currently with Odegaard in the United States.
The Arsenal captain is said to be 'very happy' at the Emirates, and the club share that sentiment despite his recent struggles with injuries. As things stand, Odegaard will report for pre-season as usual and remain in north London beyond the summer transfer window.
The rumour emerged amid Norway's World Cup campaign, where they have reached the round of 32 and will face Brazil on Sunday. That match renews club rivalries, with Erling Haaland going up against Gabriel Magalhães, while Gabriel Martinelli looks to build on his winning goal against Japan.
Galatasaray are known to be searching for a marquee attacking midfielder, and have also been linked with Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes. But for now, Odegaard's future appears firmly at Arsenal.
