Arsenal have left Newcastle United stunned and flabbergasted by their handling of the ongoing Bruno Guimarães transfer saga, according to media reporter Keith Downie. Crucially, Arsenal have not yet made direct contact with Newcastle. All communication so far has gone through intermediaries. There have been no talks with Andrea Berta or any other Arsenal representative. The sheer amount of noise with no direct contact has stunned the Magpies, and it only serves to unsettle Guimarães, who is currently on holiday. Downie corroborates that the 28-year-old has personally told Newcastle he wants to leave — the message came directly from him, not from an agent. To push the move through, Guimarães and his representative Alexis Malavolta have teamed up with superagent Kia Joorabchian, known to be a fan of Arsenal. Joorabchian’s involvement caused a stir on social media. Importantly, this saga is not about money for Guimarães — it is purely a footballing decision. At the same time, he does not want to damage his strong relationship with Newcastle. He will not pull an Alexander Isak-style strike. He wants to pursue the Arsenal opportunity and challenge for major honours, but he is not forcefully agitating for a transfer. Staying put would not be a disaster for him, and he understands Newcastle will only sell if they receive top dollar. No price has been set, though Downie suggests the Magpies could demand as much as €100m given Guimarães’ importance.
