Arsenal Transfer Roundup: Barcola Hope, Thompson Deal Done, Alvarez Push

0
Arsenal are shaping up for a busy summer window, with multiple targets being tracked across Europe. The latest reports suggest the Gunners could benefit from Paris Saint-Germain's move for Ferran Torres to land their top winger target, while a young prospect has already been snapped up by Newcastle. Bradley Barcola remains a primary objective for Mikel Arteta, but prising him away from PSG will not come cheap. According to L'Equipe, the Ligue 1 champions are holding out for a fee in the region of €150 million. Talks over a new contract have not reached a breakthrough, and the 23-year-old is reportedly weighing up his options. PSG's pursuit of Barcelona's Ferran Torres — who has reportedly agreed a five-year deal in Paris per Nicolò Schira — and their interest in Yan Diomande and Maghnes Akliouche could open the door for Barcola to move on. In more concrete news, Newcastle United have completed the signing of Arsenal academy winger Kyran Thompson. insider confirmed the deal, posting that the England Under-17 talent had accepted the Magpies' offer among five proposals and will join as a free agent. The move has been labelled a 'here we go'. Arsenal are also pushing hard for Atletico Madrid striker Julián Álvarez. The Argentina international is said to be open to joining the north London club, though his preference would be to stay in Spain with either Barcelona or Real Madrid. Atletico, however, are reluctant to strengthen direct rivals, which could work in Arsenal's favour. According to reports, Arteta sees Álvarez as his priority attacking addition, and the club are working to finalise a deal before preseason begins on July 20, though advanced talks may have to wait until after the World Cup. Another attacking option being monitored is Real Sociedad's Mikel Oyarzabal. Fichajes report that Arteta wants to bring his compatriot to the Emirates, but the Basque club have no intention of selling their captain, and the player himself has not requested a move. Defensively, Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on former player Konstantinos Mavropanos. After West Ham's relegation to the Championship, the Greek centre-back has attracted interest from several European clubs. Arsenal are said to be among the admirers, though no formal discussions have taken place yet, given the depth already in Arteta's backline.
