Lille president sends clear message to Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea over Ayyoub Bouaddi

Lille president Olivier Letang has fired a warning shot to Europe’s biggest clubs chasing Ayyoub Bouaddi, insisting only a select few can afford the 18-year-old midfield sensation.
The French side’s boss dismissed reports that Lille are demanding between €80m and €100m for the Moroccan teenager, but he pointed to the recent mega deals for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali as a benchmark for Bouaddi’s true value.
Bouaddi has already racked up 96 senior appearances since breaking into Lille’s first team in 2023 and played a key role in Morocco’s run to the World Cup quarterfinals this summer. His rapid rise has put Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City on alert, with Arsenal already believed to have opened talks.
Letang, however, made it clear that Bouaddi will not come cheap. “Many clubs are interested in him, but very few can afford him today,” he told Eurosport. “He is already one of the best midfielders in the world and still has a very important margin for improvement. He is only 18 and has his whole future ahead. He is focused to continue to grow and win everything.”
When asked about the rumored €80m-€100m asking price, Letang flatly denied it. “You have to look at his level. There are many players like Anderson or Tonali who are much older — 23 and 26 respectively — but with no room for progress. That gives you an idea of the value of Ayyoub, who has a unique profile at only 18.”
Anderson joined Manchester City from Nottingham Forest this week for €135m, while Tonali is nearing a €115m move from Newcastle to Tottenham. Those figures, Letang suggested, are the real starting point for any Bouaddi negotiation.
Bouaddi remains under contract at the Stade Pierre Mauroy until 2029, giving Lille all the leverage. With City also exploring a buy-and-loan-back arrangement for the 2026-27 season, the race for one of Europe’s hottest prospects is only just beginning.
