Barcelona zero in on Karim Adeyemi as Marcus Rashford replacement — personal terms done

Barcelona have taken a significant step toward signing Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi, with personal terms already agreed between the player and the Catalan club.
According to Marca, the Germany international has given the green light to a move to Camp Nou, and Barcelona have followed up by submitting an initial bid. insider confirms that the offer has been made and that Adeyemi only wants Barcelona.
The deal is expected to land in the €30–40 million range — roughly the same amount Barcelona had budgeted to make Marcus Rashford’s loan permanent. The Blaugrana held a €30 million option on the Manchester United forward but chose not to activate it, instead pivoting to the Dortmund attacker.
Adeyemi, 24, is a more natural right-sided winger than Rashford, though last season he often featured as an attacking midfielder for Dortmund, underlining his versatility. Data from SciSports rates the two players at a similar current level, with Adeyemi — given his age — carrying a higher long-term ceiling. He is more direct and vertical than Rashford, regularly taking on defenders, but has historically been less productive in terms of goals and assists.
German football expert Ronan Murphy is skeptical about the fit. “Somebody at Barcelona must have forgotten all about their best-ever player and instead thought athleticism is what’s needed … Sure, Karim Adeyemi will be excellent in Hansi Flick’s chaotic high-pressing game, but only when Barcelona don’t have the ball,” Murphy said. He pointed to Adeyemi’s frequent poor decision-making in possession and noted that the winger was benched in February 2026, with Dortmund legend Roman Weidenfeller urging him to be more than just “the difference-maker on paper.” Adeyemi ultimately missed out on Germany’s World Cup squad.
Despite the doubts, Barcelona see Adeyemi as a bargain. With only one year left on his Dortmund contract, his Estimated Transfer Value has dropped to €44.9 million, and the Blaugrana look set to pay even less. The combination of a manageable fee, lower wages than Rashford would have commanded, and Adeyemi’s defensive work rate has convinced Hansi Flick that the German can be a valuable squad piece moving forward.
