Spain Dominate France 2-0 to Reach World Cup Final: Player Ratings
0
Spain put on a masterclass in Dallas, beating France 2-0 to book their first World Cup final appearance since 2010. Luis de la Fuente's side will now face either England or Argentina in New Jersey on Sunday.
Rodri was the heartbeat of Spain's midfield, suffocating France and earning a 9/10 rating from sources's Neil Johnston. The Spain captain dictated the tempo and never allowed Les Bleus to settle. Pau Cubarsi and Aymeric Laporte formed an impenetrable wall at the back, with Laporte completing over 90% of his passes under pressure. Lamine Yamal, quiet for much of the tournament, came alive in the semifinal — winning the penalty that Mikel Oyarzabal coolly converted for the opener. Pedro Porro sealed the win with a superb strike, his third goal involvement of the competition.
France, meanwhile, had no answer. Kylian Mbappe managed just two touches in Spain's box in the first half and was largely anonymous. Ousmane Dembele, the recent Ballon d'Or winner, failed to impose himself, while Michael Olise produced his poorest display of the tournament. Adrien Rabiot was lucky to avoid a second yellow card and was hooked at halftime. William Saliba's injury — a non-contact issue — summed up a miserable night for Didier Deschamps' side, who conceded for the first time in the tournament and couldn't recover.
Spain's Unai Simon collected his sixth clean sheet in seven games, while Fabian Ruiz, Dani Olmo, and Alex Baena all contributed to a complete team performance. France's substitutes — Maxence Lacroix, Manu Kone, Desire Doue, Rayan Cherki, and Theo Hernandez — couldn't turn the tide.
