Real Madrid Seal Deal for Denzel Dumfries from Inter

Real Madrid have secured the services of Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries, bringing the 30-year-old in from Inter Milan on a four-year deal. Although the club haven't revealed the transfer fee, reports indicate that Real activated Dumfries' release clause, set at €20 million (£17.1 million). The right-sided defender becomes the fourth addition of the summer for the Spanish giants, following Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, and Ibrahima Konaté. His arrival is expected to intensify competition for England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. Dumfries leaves Inter after a trophy-laden spell. Since joining from PSV in 2021, he helped the Nerazzurri win the Serie A title twice and lift the Coppa Italia on three occasions. Across 207 appearances for Inter, he contributed 27 goals and 28 assists. On the international stage, Dumfries has been a key figure for the Netherlands, most recently helping them reach the round of 16 at the World Cup. Real Madrid endured a trophyless campaign last season, prompting president Florentino Pérez to promise defensive reinforcements during his successful re-election bid. The club has also brought back José Mourinho for a second stint as manager.
