Oliver Glasner named Nottingham Forest head coach as club’s revolving door spins again

Nottingham Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as their new head coach, making the Austrian the fifth man to hold the job in less than a year.
The former Crystal Palace boss takes over from Vitor Pereira, who was sacked on Tuesday – just two minutes before a release clause in his contract was due to expire.
“Oliver is a winner,” said Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. “It was clear that we share the same vision, the same ambition and the same relentless desire to succeed.”
Glasner, 51, left Palace at the end of last season after winning the FA Cup and the Europa Conference League during his time at Selhurst Park. He also led Palace to the Community Shield in August, beating Liverpool on penalties.
Before that, he guided Eintracht Frankfurt to the Europa League title in 2022, making him one of only three coaches to have won both UEFA club competitions.
“From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident to me that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust and belief in me and my staff to build a strong future together over the long term,” Glasner said.
Pereira, who replaced Sean Dyche in February, took Forest to 16th in the Premier League and the Europa League semi-finals, where they lost to eventual winners Aston Villa. He had one year left on his contract.
The managerial turnover at the City Ground has been relentless. Nuno Espirito Santo started last season but was sacked after three games. Ange Postecoglou lasted just 39 days, Dyche 114 days, and Pereira 133 days.
Marinakis added: “Our ambition is not simply to compete – our ambition is to win, to challenge for major honours and to create a football club that our supporters can be proud of for many years to come.”
Glasner’s relationship with Palace’s hierarchy soured last season, and he admitted feeling “abandoned completely” in January. Now he steps into another high-pressure environment, tasked with bringing both silverware and stability to a club that has desperately lacked the latter.
